Emscher-Lippe4

Experience digitization and digitalization in our learning and demonstration laboratory for innovation, integration, transfer and education

The research project Emscher-Lippe4 relies on the instrument of FabLabs in its efforts to find solutions to the challenges of digitizing / digitalizing the modern working world. Here, digitization is not understood as a purely technological change, but as a social process through which new forms of innovation, collaboration and togetherness are promoted. Our aim is to research the processes at different levels and to derive recommendations for action for the region.

People with disabilities are our target group who are supported directly and indirectly.

Emscher-Lippe4 is an integrative overall concept, which focuses on four focal points presented below:

1. Imparting digital competence

Information offers for employees and citizens with and without disabilities are intended to reduce fear of contact with new technical possibilities. Instead, users should be able to see the wide range of possibilities that digitization offers for each individual.

2. Catching up with companies for digital innovations

To make digital processes and manufacturing understandable for companies. How can companies use our offers to optimize the workflow for their employees? We are planning information and sensitization events about the potential of digital innovation focusing on individual aids and assistance systems.

3. Testing digital manufacturing methods

Digitization and digital fabrication of highly individual aids, assistance systems and individual products to maintain and expand the inclusion of people with disabilities in the world of work and society. The potential of a FabLab shall be made comprehensible to users in a low-threshold way.

4. Initiating social innovation processes

Sensitization and innovation for the city, the economy, associations and interested parties to get familiar with the possibilities of digitization and new forms of cooperation such as co-working.

The Emscher-Lippe4 project uses a stationary FabLab in combination with a mobile FabLab as learning and demonstration laboratories to make digital key competences accessible in a low-threshold way. This format of an independent and true-to-life learning is particularly suitable to provide information about digital potentials, as these will play an increasingly important role in the future.
