Users who rely on a wheelchair have additional requirements for visual perception. If there is no possibility of direct contact with the ground and the wheelchair is large and motorized, the field of vision is severely restricted. Opening of the Mini-FabLab in the Rheinbaben workshop

A further contribution to one of the main objectives of the Emscher-Lippe-hoch-4 project has been made. The Mini-FabLab in the Rheinbabenwerkstatt of the Bottroper Werkstätten was successfully opened.

We have installed several computers, 3D printers and a vinyl cutter in a wonderfully furnished room in the Rheinbabenwerkstatt. The technology is now available to all employees on site. People with disabilities can produce aids independently for their everyday life and their workplace.

Dosieromat – dosing device

The dosing device is used for the automatic dosing of certain ingredients, in particular bulk materials. The material is placed in a container and transported into the chosen target container, controlled by an app. A load cell weighs simultaneously the quantity delivered. The process ends when the selected amount is reached.

This dosing machine was primarily designed for people with fine motor deficiencies due to physical disabilities or impairments (such as tremor, spasticity) to weigh ingredients as accurately as possible. The dosing machine is intended to offer the chance to cook or bake autonomously.

Morpheus – collission detection system

Morpheus is a wheelchair collision detection system that gives the user safe, collision-free movement.
The system includes several ultrasonic sensors as well as two microcontrollers and 3D printed mounts and boxes to detect potential dangerous objects and recognize reliably

Due to the not always possible all-round visibility and the lack of flexibility, wheelchair users in particular have to deal intensively with their environment in order to be able to minimize potential sources of danger right from the start.

Noise notifications for deaf people

Deafness or impaired hearing confronts individuals with elementary problems. Important auditory signals, such as alarm signals, are not or only weakly detected. This might have severe consequences, especially in emergency situations. Apart from emergency situations, everyday conditions are significant as well: a knock on the door, a running tap or an approaching thunderstorm are just a few example. To compensate this, the developed system decides whether or not to notify the user. For this purpose, all ambient noise is continuously recorded by a microphone and analyzed. The program examines the auditory signals and decides whether the user is notified by text message.
