FabLab-Team gewinnt 2. Platz im HRW Starters Ideenwettbewerb der Hochschule Ruhr West

Mit Ihrem Morphbot gewinnt das Team mit Lena Hagenauer, Carolin Schröder und Tim Schout den 2. Platz im Ideenwettbewerb. Hiermit konnten Sie bei 30 Einreichungen einen beachtlichen Erfolg erzielen.

Es konnten sich Einzelperson oderTeams bewerben. Teilnahmeberechtigt waren alle Mitglieder der HRW: Studierende aller Fachrichtungen, Absolvent*innen und Absolventen aller Fachrichtungen Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter*innen, Professor*innen und Mitarbeiter*innen in Technik und Verwaltung.

CARDMASTER-EXTREME

The Cardmaster EXTREME is a device that is designed to assist physically impaired persons to play card games without the help of others. Cards are dealt out individually thus making them easier to grasp – in contrast to picking them up from decks – and are turned to the player. The card is dealt out by giving a hand signal. About 3/4 of the card is given out, so that the card can be easily grabbed (after consultation with our user Sebastian). Turning the device is done by pushing a button. Whether the device turns 180 °, 120 ° or 90 ° depends on the number of players. This can be specified at the beginning of each game in the accompanying app.

Telephone system signal indicator

Together with the Rheinbaben workshop in Bottrop, we have decided to  work on a project that allows the employees at the headquarters to make undisturbed telephone calls. Currently there is a wired telephone installed to answer calls. This is connected to a special headset, which allows employees to easily accept calls. As soon as an incoming call is accepted on the headset, the receiver goes up and the call is answered. As this process is barely visible and the phone is installed behind the reception it cannot be seen, whether the employees are currently busy on the phone.

Bloons

As part of the Embedded Systems module, the BLOONS project was developed in cooperation with the Rheinbabenwerkstatt Bottrop. The result of the project consists of two prototypes, which allow users with different impairments to sort balloons and pack them into plastic bags independently. The first prototype focuses on the support for the sorting, the second one allows the packing of the balloons with one hand by opening the bags and keeping them open.

TellMe is a simple device that makes it easier or even possible for people with visual impairments or lack of concentration to access information in text form. It consists of a camera and a button that, when pressed, reads the text in the camera’s field of view over Bluetooth headphones or speakers in the vicinity. In order to enable especially physically impaired users to operate, TellMe was designed as a fixed device whose camera can be additionally aligned with a mobile arm
